Virtual Neighbourhood Watch for Eakring Ward residents

I am pleased to announce that a Virtual Neighbourhood Scheme has been set up just for those living in the Eakring ward.

Search Facebook at Eakring Ward Neighbourhood Watch or use this link:-

A leaflet inviting residents to participate was circulated in October and already almost half the streets in the ward now have a house included in the scheme.

Early next month (Dec) a further lealfet will be circulated and I hope we will achieve a 100% coverage of all the streets in the Eakring ward.

Nottingham Road Traffic Congestion

I am supporting the Mayor's efforts to get Notts CC Highways to urgently review the traffic congestion on the A60 Nottingham Road adjacent to Sainsbury's and McDonalds.

A Safe and Well Maintained Ward

I have access to a small fund to support the Eakring ward. If there are any issues around litter, grass verges, safety, community support please use the Contact button to let me know how I can help.

Street Champions

I would like your help in ensuring that we have a safe and well maintained ward. I hope to have at least one person on every one of the 46 streets in the ward to become a “street champion” and to keep me advised of any issues that they see. I am making regular visits around the ward as I go about my council, commercial and social activities but it would be very helpful to have some direct support from residents who can provide information about events or activities on their street. In return I will keep you aware of what I am doing and what the Council is working on.

To become a “street champion” all you need to do is have access to a current e-mail address so that I can contact you easily and give you the opportunity of influencing how I will vote on the key issues that come before the Council. I would anticipate a monthly update from me.

If you would like to play a positive part in improving our neighbourhood please let me know by calling me on 01623 706410 or e-mail me at

Council Tax

I am committed to keeping the MDC element of your Council Tax bill to a minimum. Since 2003 when the Indpendent Forum elected councillors took office we have had an Indpendent directly elected Mayor whose no.1 priority has been to keep it at ZERO. This has been achieved every year since (with one exception) and remains a top priority for Mayor Kate Allsop.

Drivng effeciences across the Council, without cutting services, is very much part of my role as the Portfolio Holder for Corporate on the Mayors Cabinet team.

Mayors Community Parade

At the request of Mayor Allsop I will be heading the organising group for the Community Parade. This will take place on Sunday 10th June 2018 starting at Mansfield Civic Centre and parading through Town Centre.

It will be organsied by Mansfield Rotary Club and the Sister Cities Association in conjunction with Mansfield District Council.

Local community groups such as Girl Guiding (Rainbows, Brownies and Guides), Scouts (Beavers, Cubs and Scouts), cadets, Friend Groups (Friends of Carr Bank etc.), heritage groups, Neighbourhood Watch, Youth Groups, WI etc. will walk with their banners or flags. Also expected to take part will be Sports clubs, Colliery bands/marching bands, local businesses who will drive in corporate vehicles with people on either side of the vehicle handing out sweets to children as they pass.

In addition invitations will be made to classic car enthusiasts, bikes and other vintage vehicles, Police, Fire Service, Ambulance Air Ambulance, Royal British Legion, Armed Forces etc.

Mayor will lead the parade through town.

Chesterfield Road Park

On the park charities can have a free stall. There will be other stalls offering food and a fun fair. Families can bring a picnic and enjoy the summer weather. Theatre/dance groups could put on performances.
