Safe Driving this winter
The County Council’s gritters go out when forecasts suggest road temperatures will be at 0°C or below, or moisture will be present to form ice, so the teams will be out to help tackle the colder weather.
Keep up to date on Twitter @nottscc for the latest on gritting runs and NCC news. You can also plan your route using the County Council’s online gritting map.
How a gritting lorry works
Approximately 176 tonnes of rock salt are used for a normal gritting run and the County Council stockpile around 20,000 tonnes at the start of winter, 100% more than the official Government recommendation.
