Plans to run a local, online lottery in Mansfield took a step closer as the name for the new lottery was revealed. Tickets for the Robin Hood Lottery will go on sale in the next two months, with 60p in every pound going to local good causes.

Plans to run a local, online lottery in Mansfield took a step closer, as the new name for the lottery was revealed. Tickets for the Robin Hood Lottery will go on sale in the next few months, with 60p from every pound going towards local good causes.

Players can decide which local good cause they want to support.

Players who do not want to support a specific cause can still take part in the local lottery, with 60 pence of their ticket price going straight into a general Robin Hood Lottery good causes fund. This fund will then be distributed through the council's grant aid funding, set up to benefit local good causes and individuals.

The remaining 40p in every pound will be used to cover lottery prizes (20p) and the running costs (20p).

Executive Mayor Kate Allsop said: "The Robin Hood Lottery will offer a great opportunity for local community groups and good causes to raise additional funding. The lottery provides an excellent way to bring people together to raise money and help others benefit. Voluntary groups help to create a thriving community, so this can only be good for the district."

The draw will take place weekly, with tickets costing just £1. A jackpot of £25,000 can be won, with a matching sequence of six numbers. Other prizes of £2,000, £250 or £25 in cash, or three free tickets could also be won. The draw will be open to anyone over the age of 16.

Good causes are encouraged to email for more information and to register an interest and also register to attend the good causes launch on Tuesday 27 February at the Civic Centre from 1pm to 2pm.

The lottery is scheduled to go live on 27 March, with the first draw taking place on Saturday 28 April.

The name - Robin Hood Lottery - was suggested by Mansfield residents on BBC Radio Nottingham.
